Every Star

My favorite Star: Michael

When I closed my blinds tonight, there was one bright star up in the sky. I smiled and thought of Michael.

Then, I started doing my laundry. And I imagined laughing with him about the little boy he used to be, dancing to the rhythm of the washing machine.

When Michael left this life, he was 50 and I was 49. The first time in my life I ever really felt my Heart, it was because I heard Michael Jackson sing. I was probably 10 years old or so. I’ve been listening to Michael sing and watching him dance almost as long as he’s been doing it. Most every stage of my life is punctuated by a song of his or an era in his career.

“Your absence has gone through me like thread through a needle. Everything I do is stitched with its color.” (W.S. Merwin, 1973)

I miss you Michael Jackson. You were and always will be the Voice of my Heart, the Dancer of my Passions — part of everything I am, and everything I believed I could be, with you as inspiration.

Of course the sky is full of stars. Those Michael inspired, those he pushed doors open for them to sparkle through, those whose lives are defined at every stage by his expression of song and dance.

In that way, Every Star is Michael.

We are all Stars. And We are One.
