Michael Loved Sunflowers. He called them the ‘Happy Flower’.

Michael Loved Sunflowers

Michael Loved Sunflowers

Below is a message from Lisa-Marie Presley. She shares that Michael loved Sunflowers. And, that there is too much open space around him where he rests at Forest Lawn.  If each of those who love Michael send just one sunflower, we can surround him!

Lisa-Marie says:

Greetings MJ Fans….

While visiting him a few days ago at Forest Lawn , Riley and I couldn’t help but notice that , while there are a few bouquets , candles and gifts there is a very large empty space around him and in front of him that could use a whole lot more.

While , I am sure that the staff at The Holy Terrace do their very best to place what is sent and what is placed at the door at his tomb , I thought you might like to know that he would want and deserves more than what is there and I had an idea…….

Some may or may not know this but his favorite flower was the Sunflower.

They made him happy because they looked happy to him , thus, he called them “The Happy Flower”.

When we were married , I would try and fill up rooms with them wherever he was.

I wanted to bring something to place near him that he liked and that wouldn’t die so I brought a large vase of silk sunflowers and placed them near him.

This barely made any kind of dent in the atmosphere so I thought of maybe letting those who care know what the situation is and how we can solve it.

I know how much he loved and appreciated being showered with Gifts and flowers by his fans , I thought if whoever wants to bought just one silk sunflower each and sent it , the whole area around him and in front of him (As well as the two large empty vases that sit on either side of him) could be filled up in no time , which would be much more appropriate than what the current status is right now.

We can all cause a “Sun shower” if you will………..He deserves to be flooded and surrounded , LETS SURROUND HIM!

Lots of Love,

We permit placement of fresh flowers, potted plants no larger than eight inches in diameter or one gallon in volume.

Fresh flowers will be removed in approximately five days or as needed.

Ornaments, balloons, spinners, statues, stones, or other items which do not conform to the rules and regulations of the Forest Lawn Memorial-Parks are not permitted.

You can order flowers from our on-site flower shop, which can deliver them directly into the mausoleum: OR for special requests and custom orders, you can call our shop at 1-800-204-3131 ext. 4629.

    Thank you for your inquiry,

The Flower Shop in Forest Lawn ~*
    hope this helps. S

    TO TLS:
I just verified your request. they are working on a link for early next week.

  3. Sonia says:

Thanks for the suggestion, I just ordered flowers from the forest lawn flower shop. Because they are in Forest Lawn, they can deliver them to the inside of Holy Terrace and lay them right next to Michael. I bought one sunflower for each of his children. The flower shop people were so nice, you gave the link but I called them at 1-800-204-3131 and asked for the flower shop. I am so happy knowing my flowers will be personnally deliver to Michael.

Please be aware that [email protected] is not my PayPal account and is not in any way managed by myself or

It belongs to Sandra and she is handling the transactions with Forest Lawn. If you have questions regarding your payment, amounts collected, etc., please email Sandra at [email protected].

    Hi Sandy !!
I just sent you 20 USD via Paypal, I hope this will work ok … Thank you sooo much sweet Sandy… This is such a beautiful tribute !!
Let us know how that program is going on … and thanks again dear !!
    josephine (from France)

  6. Seven says:

Thank you Sandra! You can post information and updates on the program here:

This the special page I set up for this project. I’ve posted this info on Twitter and around FB as well so hopefully you’ll get more donations. It would be REALLY nice if this could be something kept ongoing for Michael!

It seems Forest Lawn has VERY STRICT policies about these things and that they toss a lot of things fans leave for Michael out — so a group effort like this may indeed be the best way to go.

  7. earthgirl says:

To Seven and to all Michael Fans; Our first donation! Thank you so much!! I will find out a way to keep everyone informed of the progress and when the our vase is to be filled. Seven-please let me know the appropriate place you would like me to posts this kind of information. Would it be the Advocacy page? It’s late, but I am so happy. Keep the prayers going;-)

  8. earthgirl says:

Sorry about all the spelling errors, I’m really tired tonight. It’s late. TLS: Thank you for your suggestion. I’ll look into that tomorrow and post the information here.

  9. earthgirl says:

    Hi everyone,

Wow, that “is” a beautiful saying Lucia. Can our hearts take anymore? Loving him can hurt so much, that is why I think this ongoing flow of flowers will help us all to heal a little more day by day knowing he is surrounding with happiness.(Happy flowers)! When I spoke with Ruth, the one who will put this project into place, said that only 1 large vase will be allowed because of limited space. I asked the possibility of two or 1 even larger vase and she said that that would not be possible. I’ll call Paypal tomorrow and find out about the automatic withdrawals. This vase would be designated for the fans only. If people would like to give their full name and what part of the country they are from, I could pass that onto her and she can include that near the vase. This way fans could feel totally feel a part of this. Thank you again so much seven for all your help in this idea.

    With love,

    Sandy in Glendale, CA

OK – I’ve created a page on the ADVOCACY tab (top) for this “Sunflowers for Michael” effort:

Pass it around and let’s see if we can get a huge vase or two of sunflowers for Michael!

  12. TLS says:

Seven– I got this response from the flower shop (also from Irene):

“Please limit placements to no more than three per interment space.
Cut flowers will be removed in approximately five days…
Ornaments, borders, fences, planter boxes, balloons, spinners, statues, stones, or other items which do not conform to the rules and regulations of the Forest Lawn Memorial-Parks are not permitted. All placements not conforming to these rules will be removed.”

So, since the facility limits each interment space to 3 placements, the big vase of flowers sounds like a good idea. It might not satisfy Lisa Marie’s desire for filling the area with sunflowers, though.

Earthgirl: To keep the funds flowing, I wonder if PayPal allows automatic, monthly withdrawals? That way, people wouldn’t have to make a new donation every month, and maybe the Forest Lawn Flower shop could put as many vases as are allowed, depending on funds. Just a thought–I don’t know much about PayPal.

  13. earthgirl says:

Oh, great, thank you so much. Lets pray this works.

    I’ll keep you posted.

  14. Seven says:

I’ve posted it on my FB wall. I’ve got 400+ followers there – not all MJ fans but most are. I haven’t posted your PayPal email address yet but I can, if you want to see if or for how long this will work. (?)

I suspect people will want photos of the flowers when they’re brought in (not every week or month but just a couple every so often so that they know what’s being done and can see what they’re paying for). Maybe a photo of yourself and Irene since you are able to visit FL. Would you be able to get some photos?

I also suspect that you would get lots of donations to start with but then they might taper off after a while. I could create a separate page for the fund on the site if it seems to work out well.

  15. earthgirl says:

I used to have a facebook account, I suppose I can get it going again. But how would I get fans to visit it to find about this plan? Thanks

  16. Seven says:

Sandy – this is great information. I don’t really have ‘members’ here but I do have thousands of visitors per day. The best way to promote this may be to also put it on Facebook and I’ve posted the basic info there. Not your phone# (I removed that from your post too for safety reasons) – but just the info you received from Irene on how this might work.

If the response is good, I’ll post your PayPal email address on FB for donations.

  17. earthgirl says:

We only need 40 people per week to donate $5.00 or 160 people to donate $5.00/month. based on $200.per week. I will cover any extra charges myself. I am positive there are hundreds if not thousands of fans worldwide who would be more than willing to donate so that their flower will be amongst the large weekly arrangement of beautiful large sunflowers. If we want to see if this plan works and the integrity of it, my confirmed Paypal address is [email protected].

  18. earthgirl says:

    Hi again,

Good New! So this is what I have found out today; I spoke to Irene at the flower shop and she will reserve a large vase dedicated just to the fans and it will hold 50 fresh sunflowers that will be replaced weekly. No silk flowers allowed. In the fall they will be replaced with orange sunflowers. How exciting is that? The cost is quite high for automatic replacement for this ongoing process. They quoted $200-$250 per week. Cards are also allowed, but teddybears, etc. will not be taken in, but only left outside the Mausoleum doors. Any favors I can do for any of the most loyal Michael fans all over the world just let me know I will do it. I plan to do the rounds in June to visit the neighborhood of Neverland and also Encino, the Jackson family home. I am going to Holmby Hills this Saturday to pay my respects. Seven-let me know how this idea might work since this is your website and you have a great following here and don’t know exactly how many members you have. If you think this might work, it will have to be calculated by how many people would donate. This would give us an idea how often the flowers would be replaced. Hope to hear from you soon.

    With L.O.V.E.

  19. Miz T says:

    Thank you for this, 7.

  20. TLS says:

Seven– I really like your last idea. If many people can automatically have $5/month charged to their paypal accounts, we could keep MJ in sunflowers forever! I’d do it.

  21. Seven says:

@ BG – thank you! That was a great deal of fun and a very interesting and informative show!

@TLS – thank you! Let us know what you find out, if anything.

@Lauren – I remember in one performance of Earth Song too, the little girl comes out with a big sunflower to give to the man in front of the tank with the gun.

@earthgirl – I’ve since learned that Forest Lawn prefers not to have silk flowers but rather real ones. I expect that they were not aware of Lisa-Marie’s flowers being silk. Thus, I’m guessing any sunflowers we send would have to be real ones. (Unless your friend knows some way around that).

I’m unsure as to their removal policy for non-perishable items – items such as photos and other memorabelia, stuffed animals and the like (or silk flowers). Could your friend find out about that for us? They seem to clean them out after a period – what is the time period and what do they do with the non-perishable items they remove from the crypt area?

Thank you for your generous offer of assistance for those who can’t afford expensive arrangements.

There are others I know of who are also working on some sort of arrangement that fans can donate via PayPal and we can collectively have sunflowers sent to Michael on a regular basis. I’ll update as I get more info.

  22. TLS says:

Seven–I just wrote to Forest Lawn’s flower shop asking them if they can set up an easy link on their website for this. I’ll let you know if they get back to me.

  23. Lauren says:

Aw that is sweet to hear. I remember that in his performance of “Gone Too Soon” at Clinton’s inaugural gala, Michael accidentally sang the words “sun flower” at the end of one line. But now that I think about it, I suppose it was actually more of a fun coincidence. 🙂

  24. Jaqueline M. says:

Hi, Seven. I cried while I read Lisa Marie’s message. I would like to leave a Sunflower for Michael too,but I can’t because I live in Brazil and I think I will never have the chance to visit him. If you send sunflowers to him, please send a little one in my name.

  25. earthgirl says:

I have thought about how some who cannot afford to buy these arrangements and want to make a suggestion. Since I live only 10 minutes away from Forest Lawn in Glendale, and visit Michael often I thought I could take donations of $5.00 each into my Paypal account, so I could purchase large silk sunflowers and take them there myself and give them to a friend of mine who works there to make sure they are placed at Michael’s Tomb as per Lisa’s request. Each person would give me their name as they would want it addressed and I will apply that information onto the flower. Let me know if this sounds like a feasible idea. I know nobody knows me, but I am a verified member for many years at Paypal and a true Loyal fan of, most truly, Michael Joseph Jackson. Let me know what you think.

    With love. L.O.V.E.

  26. BG says:

    Hi Seven,

Such a great thought – surround Michael with Happy Flowers.

Heard you on Ustream. I agree, you do a lot of great writing. Thank you for all you do.
