The Westin Shimei Bay Resort
The hotel's lobby area is almost 10,000 square meters and ceiling height is 23m. For such a huge space, YANG designed 36 huge concrete "trunks" in lobby, inspired by towering thousand-year-old trees in forest with green bark.
The "trunk" is covered with aluminum panels with a wood grain and natural texture, which become backbone of space. At same time, passages are thrown between “trunks”, forming air corridors, which not only solves problem of excessive scale of space, but also creates a sense of mystery of jungle.
