Every Chinese has a pastoral dream. In fields and countryside, many old houses are forgotten because no one has repaired them. Architects have begun renovation work based on these old buildings.
A magnificent transformation of old and dilapidated buildings in countryside has been completed. I really like to watch such explosive cases~
Taoyuan Village is located in Anhui Province. Due to its relative isolation, original layout of village and Huizhou style of architecture from Ming and Qing dynasties are still well preserved. Tea is produced in village, and villagers also like to taste tea, so they plan to convert an old unused building into a teahouse.
Before renovation
The house is very small, its area is only 60 square meters. The original form of building is two floors, first floor is crowded with agricultural tools, and second floor is mostly empty due to low height of wooden roof truss, and wooden structure is almost rotten.
Repair
Four façades of old house have been preserved, including old wooden lattice windows, old spruce doors, and unique convex transoms of Huizhou Folk Houses, while damaged wooden structures and roofs have been restored.
Ideas for reform
Using fir as a beam-column structure, timber structure cantilevers roof to outside in shape of a tree crown to cover and protect old walls.
After transformation
The tea room on ground floor is mainly used for tasting and judging tea. Divided into an exhibition area and a reception area, exhibition area is equipped with tea toys and tea sets.
The roof of second floor has been raised, which allows not only to admire scenery, but also to drink tea. Although layout is very modern, it also retains essence of Huizhou architecture.
Beauty depends on
The beauty corner is a poetic architectural element in Huizhou folk houses. In enclosed courtyard, second floor is a deep boudoir, and women can only see outside world in beauty corner on second floor.
Love top floor
The first floor of a traditional building in Huizhou is used as a hall, while second floor is used as a warehouse. The second floor is open as an independent meeting space, which not only provides good privacy, but also increases intimacy of communication between clan and neighbors.
The use of modern technologies and materials for careful and rational repair of old buildings is a real aesthetic art of changing old look.
