Many old-fashioned buildings are expensive to tear down and rebuild, so after restoration they are often used for other purposes. For example, factories, churches, etc. can be converted into offices.
Some of renovations reported today involve old bathhouses and old factory buildings. Let's look at real photos:
1. Renovation of Ashton's ancient baths | Andrew, UK
Modern urban architecture and urbanism
Almost 150 years have passed since baths were built. The architects have retained original Victorian structure, which has recently been converted into a four-story office building.
The wooden main building is combined with a red brick outer wall, and a spacious promenade is allotted around it.
The architectural design is inspired by cabin of a ship, while glass partitions complement warm and clean color of the wood.

The project is located in an old gas plant in Chaoyang District in Beijing, covering an area of about 150 square meters. The appearance has not changed much, only two stiffening walls have been added in center to maintain structural stability of old building.
The whole space is a long linear space, and various functional areas are both connected and independent, mysterious and interesting.
The design of rooms, furniture and fixtures uses a large amount of low-carbon and recycled materials such as straw boards, which adds to feeling of natural simplicity.
3. The transformation of Soviet factory | Moscow, Russia
Kleinvelarchitecten
The original building is an abandoned factory. After restoration, it is just an inconspicuous concrete building from outside. In fact, four-story building inside is unique.
The interior is done in a minimalist color scheme, with an irregular staircase going through it, quite artistic and textured.

The base on original site covers an area of only 10 m. Due to small space, metal plates and steel are painted white. This not only makes house light and airy, but also has a reflective effect that illuminates different floors.
The floors are connected by iron stairs, and mezzanine is made of rubber wood combined with gray concrete floors, which looks rustic and friendly.
By connecting upper and lower spaces in series, space is fully utilized.
